Isn't it about...time!
Today was a wonderful day. I have been working 80 hour weeks for as long as I can remember. I have only spent time with friends socially about 2 times in the past several months. My life consists of staring at my computer at home, staring at my computer in the office, napping o the couch, and fitfully trying to sleep through the night. I didn't realize my plate was too full until I was so overburdened it took months to dig myself out.
Slowly I have been thinning out my work load, reassigning clients to friends, and trying to make time to breathe. Today I handed over the design files to my last major project outside my day job. It as such an overwhelmingly happy feeling - I didn't even know how miserably overworked I had become until the moment I was free.
With my Friday night free, I realized once again, I don't have the first clue how to relax. Gregg and I went to the bookstore, and went out to a fantastic Indian dinner. I spouted off my plans for all my free time - until Gregg intervened reminding me to keep my free time free. I am no good at that.
We came home and invited our lovely next door neighbors over for scrabble - something so simple and natural, yet so refreshing for me. I am a full blown workaholic. I work day and night, 7 days a week. I fall asleep and wake up thinking about my projects. Being lazy will take effort - but I need to get back to a healthy balance of spending time with Gregg, going to the gym, reading, walking the dog, cooking dinner, watching movies (really watching them, not working through them)...spending time with friends (making friends), skiing, working on my house.....writing, photographing.....It is amazing how happy freedom makes me.
